The service
Italian Elopements arranges your wedding with the comune, organises what the day needs and is with you on the day, as well as taking care of everything needed to make your marriage legal in Italy and valid at home. One fixed fee, agreed in writing before you commit.
For British couples: everything that happens in Italy, plus your paperwork at home checked step by step.
£1,950our fixed fee
For Irish couples: the same service, with your certificates of freedom to marry timed to fit your date.
€2,250our fixed fee
For American couples: the same service, plus the US route, with your consulate appointments booked and timed for you.
$3,400our fixed fee
Each fee is the same anywhere in Italy, and the same for an elopement or a small group of guests. Outside it sit the comune's own fee, your own paperwork, and the cost of what you choose for the day, such as flowers or a photographer.
The fee is for a wedding at a venue the comune offers, with the two witnesses Italian law requires coming from the people you bring. If it is just yourselves, we can arrange witnesses as an extra. A private villa or hotel, or a celebration organised around the day, is quoted separately.
What it covers
- Advice on where and when to marry, and booking the venue the comune offers
- Flowers, chairs, a photographer and other touches on request, arranged for you
- Being with you on the day to make sure it all runs smoothly
- Everything with the comune (the local council), in Italian: finding out what it can offer, securing the date, the forms and the fee
- Checking exactly what paperwork your comune wants from the two of you, and every document before it leaves home
- The Italian translations of your documents, sworn before an Italian court where that is required
- The stamp duty and other small costs paid in Italy through PagoPA, the Italian public payments system
- Interpreting at the declaration before the registrar and at the wedding, as Italian law requires
- Your Italian marriage certificate after the wedding, with our English translation, sent to you at home
What you pay separately
The comune's fee. Usually modest outside the most requested venues. Each comune sets its own and you pay it to the comune directly. Expect anything from nothing at some comuni on a weekday morning to several hundred euros for a castle, cloister or historic courtyard, and €1,000 or more in the big cities and at the best-known venues, with evenings and weekends costing more. We confirm your comune's fee before you book. If you choose a private villa or hotel the comune has authorised for weddings, the venue's own hire sits on top and is paid to the venue.
Witnesses, if it is just yourselves. Italian law needs two witnesses at the ceremony. We can arrange them for you; they are not part of our fee, so any cost for their time is agreed with you first.
Your own paperwork. British couples: giving notice at your register office for your certificates of no impediment, the bilingual sworn declaration before a solicitor or notary, and the Foreign Office apostilles on those documents. Irish couples: the Department of Foreign Affairs' fee for your certificates of freedom to marry, and having your declarations witnessed. American couples: the Italian consulate's fees, the apostilles on your US documents and the US notarial fee.
The day itself. Flights and where you stay are yours to book. We arrange the flowers, chairs, photographer and anything else the day needs; what those cost is separate from our fee. What we don't do as standard is organise a celebration afterwards, book private venues such as villas or hotels, or provide full wedding planning; we can quote for those separately, before you commit.
Quoted individually
Some situations change the process, so we quote them once we know the details:
- One or both of you has Italian citizenship, including dual nationality
- One or both of you lives in Italy
- You live outside your home country, such as a British couple living in Spain
- Mixed nationalities, such as one British and one American
- Other nationalities, such as Australian, Canadian or other European citizens
How you pay
A deposit when you sign gets the work started: £150, €175 or $200, and it counts towards the fee. The rest is paid in two instalments as your wedding comes together, on dates set out in your agreement, in the same currency.
